Original 1918 lithograph commissioned by the Boy Scouts of America to support the Third Liberty Loan, a national war bond initiative held in spring 1918 toward the end of the First World War. The Scouts participated actively in the loan by soliciting contributions in their neighborhoods. The image shows a kneeling scout offering the sword of justice to Columbia, the female personification of the American Republic, dressed in battle gear. Artist is J.C. Leyendecker, a painter and illustrator who was already famous and became even more visible during the war thanks to his striking poster designs. Dimensions are 20 x 30 inches.
Newly linen backed (10 oz cotton canvas + 90 lb archival paper) and acid-neutralized.  Excellent condition; never rolled, no traces of fold lines; strong colors; no missing paper; no flaws whatsoever. A beautiful example of this design, one of the most pristine I've seen in over 20 years of collecting. Other sellers on Ebay offer this poster unbacked in much lesser condition for over 00.
