    Description

Please email with any questions. Original 14" by 22" recruiting poster from World War I. Poster printed on thin cardboard, printed by Johnson-Dallas Company Printers in Atlanta, GA, slightly faded medium blue ink on posterboard that has toned from its original white color and has a stain in the top right corner, also brittle from age, has some slight wear and tear along the edges, bottom right-hand corner has a tear and bend (see closeup)..  We will package it securely to survive the trip to you.  Poster reads: "The President calls for 2,500 Georgia Volunteers by June 30th for the regular US Army. Be wise- Be one of the 2,500. Help Georgia fill her quota for regulars and help yourself to promotion. Probably the registered man's last chance to volunteer. Enlist for the war only. Ask your postmaster.". This particular poster came from an attic of a old downtown Macon building that housed the Macon Telegraph in the early years of the 20th century.and later a boxing gym. A gym seems like a likely spot to post recruiting posters.
