    From a North Carolina estate we are able to offer a 1909 postcard as follows:
    Front of Card:  Theodore Roosevelt, J.A. Loring (Naturalist), Col. E.A. Mearns (U.S.A. Retired Surgeon), R. J. Cunninghame (Guide and Manager)

    "THE ROOSEVELT EXPEDITION.  The party is called the Smithsonian African Expedition and has the object of securing specimens of the fauna and flora of mid-Africa.  J. Alden Loring is an expert collector of small mammals and birds.  Edmund Heller, another member of the party, is a trained naturalist and was with the Field Columbian Expedition.  Col. Edgar Mearns is a physician and retired officer of the regular army and is an authority on zoology and botany.  Kermit Roosevelt is the official photographer.  R. J. Cunninghame, guide and manager, is a noted English hunter.  E.C. Selous, a noted African hunter, also spent some time with the party."
